Clip on magnifier glasses for spectacles

Hi

I was wondering whether any of you bespectacled members could point me in the right direction to purchase a clip on magnifier for my spectacles. I notice there are quite a few on offer on various websites  but wondered if there is a preference. I get a feeling I would prefer a pop up type to save me taking the item off and on. I am fairly short sighted -7.5 so an idea of the best magnification would also be useful.  Any help appreciated. Kind regards David

First of all, welcome to the forum.

With that level of shortsight you should try working without glasses.  My uncorrected vision is even weaker than your, but I get on with amazing easiness because of the full binocular vision. I keep a strong loupe on the head but rarely need to use it, only for close checks on the hairspring or to fit shock spring.

The only thing I need to pay attention to is to keep tools near and lined up otherwise I need to put glasses to find them B)

Thanks for your reply. I was wondering that myself - as I am able to work quite close up without my specs. I must look a bit odd though a little like Mr Magoo...but your idea of keeping things as close as possible is really useful. Many thanks.

I expect it may be too late for the OP, but this morning (4/June/16) I spotted some ARY clip-on magnifiers on eBay for $14.99 (£10.40) with free postage. That's a lot cheaper than Cousinsuk's  £80 inc VAT. For US and Canada he charges $15 DHL shipping.

The seller is makram224662. He's an official Horotec dealer in Egypt, apparently.

The choice is now down to 1.5, 2 and 2.5, so maybe not ideal for everyone.
