6mm lathe

Hi

Quite a while ago now I bought myself a 6mm Lorch and Schmidt lathe. If I had the choice again I probably would get an 8mm one instead, but this was a real bargain and came very well equipped so I've no regrets. I've not used it that much because there are problems with some of the collets I've not got round to sorting, and I've decided it's about time I did :).

There are about 30 or so collets, probably from a number of different lathes but fortunately the threading is the same on all of them. The problem is some of the bodies are longer than others, or the threads are longer, so that they are not fully pulled into the headstock. I can do a quick fix by making some sleeves/rings to effectively extend the length of the drawbar, but the best thing I think is to make a new drawbar or two. I could also do with repairing the threads on some of the collets so I need a tap and die.

According to the lathe.co.uk site the lathes needs a tap of 0.199" by 0.7mm, and fortunately my measurements agree. I've only found one source selling taps and dies with these measurements, GG Tools in Germany (actually 5.06mm) and they are 42 Euro each. I was thinking I might try a less expensive 5mm x 0.7mm tap and die to see if it is good enough, but I can't find a source for M5 x 0.7, 0.8 or 0.75 seem more usual.

Two questions really - does anybody know of another source - preferably European - for taps and dies 0.199" (5.05 or 5.06mm) x 0.70mm. In addition or instead a source for 5M x 0.7mm taps and dies. Thanks.

or you cold try Axminster Power tools here http://www.axminster.co.uk/?gclid=Cj0KEQjwo_y4BRD0nMnfoqqnxtEBEiQAWdA12x1ruuf7MaWPjgn97m8Ls-H8F0sp7aogUPeVVIrndAIaAo3l8P8HAQ

Just to say I have no connections with these sites. They are places I know and have dealt with in the past.

Thanks - I've sent toolbox an email to ask if they have anything.

You can kiss me some other time :) M5,2 x 0,7 is the thread size.

Thanks again, but I think I'll give the kissing a miss :D. It's good of you to look, but I did see that listing when I first looked some time ago. I contacted the seller who confirmed it was 5.2mm. I then pointed out that this wasn't correct for a 6mm Lorch, but they have obviously just ignored me.
