Hi all

I recently bought a Jacot tool and this mysterious part came with it. Can someone tell me what it is? Also is it possible to buy Jacot parts as one of the runners is missing? Thanks.

I am new to this hobby and I know I probably bought this set in haste but I thought I may clean it up and have a go at burnishing. Can anyone also tell me what this runner is for?

This runner is for long pivots - the ones of the 4th wheel, where the sub seconds hand sits.

Ah I see now! Thanks for the hep Nev👍

The only current maker (and for some decades so) is Horia/Steiner. The runners are matched to the tool, so even if you have one with a diameter that corresponds- Steiner runners are 8.80mm- the chances that it lines up correctly are small. The other older tools are often unbranded at all, so finding a matching runner is next to impossible.

Ok thanks Nick. I suppose I need to invest a bit more and get a better set (thankfully I only paid £30). I have access to an engineering facility so may see if I can get something made. Did you recognise the first item that came with it?

Thanks Praezis.

I found this picture online.

Looks like I am a few bits short. I don't recognise it. Would you still say it was a pivot drill?

But don‘t grieve, these tools are of little use and I cannot remember someone using it.

YouTube the home of tools that are interesting but not necessarily practical.

Yes, it says so on the box as well. It's a "outil á centrer et rapporter les pivots"..

It comes with an assortment of tiny drills and holders for them. Haven't played with it though now I have a lathe, but someday I will..

somewhere in the universe I've seen where someone made a new holder for carbide drills.

That looks a great piece of kit!

Thanks very much for putting me out of my misery 👍.

Sure 😀. You can compare what is missing.

Thanks Frank. I think I will confine this to my ever expanding 'non operational tools' drawer...😊 Tony.
