Does anyone have this book? I’m looking at buying it but it’s a hefty price tag, over £100 but if it has what it says then it will be a great help for a project that I have.

Would anyone be able to say if it has the engineers drawings to the workings of the clocks, ie how the compound pendulum is fitted and parts etc.

There is a hell of a lot of info about compound pendulums on the net and it is all free. 

If you are a clockmaker it is high unlikely you will get to work on such pieces.

Well, here is the one awaiting my attention.

I have found some information but would like to find the fine details for certain components that I’m going to have to make.

may well end taking it to the next BHI meeting to see if any members locally have any information.

but if you could point me in any direction web wise for info please do mate

In all my time as a watch and clockmaker nothing like this came into my workshop. It sure is in a heck of a mess. From what I can see it is French from the pictures the case doesn't look complete but who knows under all that dirt and grime. Have you looked at the movement to see what it is like the pivots and pinions I would think are rusty. You need to take loads of photos and contact someone from here. If you have never bought a copy of this mag I advise you to do so. They will be able to help you

Yes its a one off, long term project, to be fitted in between customer work as and when I have the time. From the little information I have found it is missing the pendulum ( which I will make) and a few suspension springs that will also need to be made, the counterbalance weight in the tower has a bent shaft that will need to be straightened.

The linkages all move freely and the screws that I have attempted to loosen up have all come free, this is due to them being brass and not rusted steel items. As for the movement its a standard french drum strike movement so wont be too troublesome, I have had many across the bench and also re-pivoted many arbor assemblies so should be reasonably straightforward to get back to working condition.

I guess i will purchase the book the the off chance that it hold the information that I require.

as you're going to the meetings you could always email headquarters and see if it's in their library. They do have a really nice library with a lot of books.

Ask to see the index and a few page examples, it might give you some idea of what is detailed, at 100 quid I'm sure the seller will oblige.

    • Righty ho, I re-serviced the chrono module and got a reasonable result with minimal loss of amplitude when not running the chrono and about 30 degrees loss when running. Great. The problem is now that the chrono (and movement) stops running after about a minute or so, a tap on the watch starts it running again. No issues with the movement running when the chrono is stopped. Going to service it yet again, obviously some residual issues with friction in the chrono module (Very frustrating - I wish there was some way of testing it as I go!) I also seem to have a problem with the cannon pinion where the movement is running continuously (with the chrono stopped) but it's losing significant time / stopping. This is one of those two piece ETA style with a driving wheel pressed over the cannon pinion, obviously arranged for driving the chrono module. I had no issues with this prior to service and just added a small amount of grease between the driving wheel and the centre cannon pinion as the technical guide required. What's the best way of tightening these up? I would like to replace it but I guess this is going to be hard to find as it is dedicated to the DD chrono movement. 
    • He uses the micrometer cap, but he leaves the spring out (you can see that in the video). If you leave the spring in, the spindle will move up as well (as shown by @Knebo).
    • Seems like he doesn't have the micrometer cap  attached to the spindle so he can only push down but cannot pull up? If the cap screws into the spindle I guess you don't need the spring? I only have a "normal" Seitz so I really have no idea. 
    • Do you have a part number for the bearing shim lock tool?
    • Yes in my opinion the 3/4HP is plenty but it’s your decision & yes it does come with speed control but foot operation so my reason for changing to potentiometer was because my leg shakes so it was like me revving the lathe & anyway I prefer to set the speed. I & a few others that I recommended the motor to run a Pultra 10mm lathe so if you have a 6 or 8mm B & L then it will be plenty, if you have seen any of my videos you will have seen that when using a graver I run quite slow without any problems.
