Picked up this sad looking clock for £5 as a learning opportunity: cracked/chipped ceramic dial, missing minute hand, unattached movement. A chimer if not a charmer. "9664 France" on rear of back plate; same number on rear of front plate. Was running when I got it home & continued for an hour or two but not since despite winding a few turns. Grateful for suggestions as to possible provenance or sources to search....

It's a French 8 day strike with rack striking. I need to see the platform and back plate.

Thanks for that, OH. Back plate shot attached - what do you mean by "platform"?

Hi OH: hope you had a good Easter break. I was grateful for your reply of 25 March and provided the above photo of the backplate in response. I'd like to do likewise re "the platform" but I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by the term. Could you please advise ?

Hello again OH. Nev has explained to me what he understands you mean by "platform" (see below). I hope this photo & that of the backplate (above) allows you to add to your helpful initial identification of this clock (which I have got going again by adding a small amount of oil to the barrel pinions having determined that the problem was in the first part of the train.....
