Certina DS-2 ref 5801 300 crystal and crown

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Recently I bought Certin DS 2 ref. 5801 300 from if I'm correct ~1970 with 25-651 mechanizm.

I'm looking for some information about parts. I'm quite new in watches so may be that informations that I'm looking for are  obvious to you.

So.. I'm looking for original crown or at least certina part number.

In the internet I found crown for certina ds-2 that hase 6,5mm. But from my measurements it looks like it should have max 6mm.

And the next thing, crystal.

I found some informations that it was sapphire crystal but I'm not sure, maybe you know the part number of crystal or dimensions, or haw to find it.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

If you need any photos I can add them.

Yes, please add photos.

Finding parts for vintage watches can be challenging, but not impossible.

Once we see pictures, you will get more input.

New members should give an introduction here. Though not required, I like to have an idea of member's location (Switzerland, Nevada, S. Africa...). Members of this forum are very helpful.

Thanks.  Sorry...I missed your intro--my bad!

I doubt that watch takes a sapphire or mineral crystal.

I think that crystal is too small becouse I can easily push it out by hands.

Crownt original and I think that it is to big and it stick too far out.

My dream is to have it waterfroof as mutch as I can. So good crystal and we'll fitted crown is wery important

"The Certina DS-2

Introduced in 1968, the Certina DS-2 carried on this tradition of robustness and maintained the DS system with improvements and a more durable stainless steel case design. These tonneau-shaped cases shared the turtleback feature and some further innovations. The crown is partially guarded by being set within the flow of the case flank, and it is secured with a twin seal."

That's the text from that site. My crown isn't sitting flat and it doesn't have seals so that's why I wish to change it.

I'm considering this one but I'm not sure will it fit and that is why I seek for some advice.

Ok after loong sherch I found post on some forum that crystal is: 982/10 31.0-13 but it is really hard to faind, but it would be grate if someone could assure me that I'm not wrong.

"
DS, 31,0-6 and DS-2, 31,0-13 packages. It says DS on the DS-2 one but this is because it was used on the later DS watches as well."

Thanks for that informations, I will look for that crystal.

One more think.. Normally under the acrylic crystal, and as far as I find out today it is acrylic, there are no gasket but this watch should be somehow water resistant. So.. Should there be any gasket?

For acrylic crystals, I have never seen a gasket. I don't expect I ever will. GS makes various waterproof crystals, e.g., magnitite.

No gasket, but tension ring. This original crystal for DS/DS2 is much thicker.
