Some Bulova Help Please

Hello Louis,

The power supply is as you said to replace the cell for testing purposes. It gives a consistent and variable supply that is linked in with the meter to give accuracy as well.

I will try to find your answer but if anyone else can kick in it would be handy as I am going out today.

Had a look under two date wheels in my movement spares but unfortunately they both have the wrong spring. Could you post a pic of the movement you are working on please.

Howzit Vic , here's a pic......or 4 ...

 

I posed the parts on the watch but the spring was in love with the coil magnetism so it was a bit fiddly...BUT I do believe that the spring is held in place by the top plate as it fits perfectly in the cut out indentations .

 

I am going to start a new post and title it "Some Bulova Help Part 2" . This post is getting too long . I have a question for you that I will post there .

Here's my take on it Louis, although I may well be wrong.

Fit the spring into the back of the plate as in the bottom picture.

Place the indexing cam in picture one as far down the slot as is possible.

Place the plate complete with spring carefully onto the movement and gently nip up the screws.

Use a pair of tweezers to compress the spring while pushing the plate into position with a piece of peg wood.

When located behind the cam tighten the screws to hold the plate down securely.

The way I fit that spring is put the top plate in place then with tweezers and peg wood I push the spring in the opening and it is in place.

I'm not sure which caliber it is right now , but there is a Seiko with an indentation on the date plate where you push the small day detent spring in after the plate is attached . 

  Because of the design on this  Accutron , the spring was ready to take off for the moon when I lifted the date plate .  I did have my hand covering the watch anticipating this to happen , and I corralled the jailbreak of parts , but didn't have a chance to see how the puzzle went together . The light over my head went on when I fitted the spring to the plate .
