Knackered Screw Head

Recommended Posts

Typical - the final screw of my disassembly and I think I've knackered the head - the screw was in so tight I noticed the shaft of the screwdriver go banana shaped. Then I noticed that I had damaged the head with no real prospect of getting the screw out.

Not sure what to do next - I could leave the jewel in the plate and try and clean it in situ, but I'd much rather do the right thing.

Any ideas ?

Personally I would leave clean in situ & oil with a auto oiler. Others would shift the screw with Alum see Geo's link. I have never used this method but it seems good.

Clockboy - what is an auto-oiler ? And how is it different / more useful than the standard one that looks like a blunt pin on the end of a handle ?

Cheers - always learning [emoji3]

You can get different sizes But I only have this one for balance jewels. Real handy for some jewels that are difficult to remove.
