Just started with all of this and wanted to get a bit more involved. I expect I’ll be signing up for Mark’s online course soon having been through the first few intro tutorials. Just have one question at the moment and hopefully someone might have some information. I bought a seiko 6139 on ebay and it’s missing the centre upper jewel. I’ve got the part down as 011.167 and it seems to have been discontinued. Is there an alternative part for this or would it be better to wait until an entire main plate crops up? Thanks,

Ben.

Welcome to WRT forum Ben.

A jewel out of a donor movement will do, no problem specially that shipping a jewel isn't too costly. Just between the two of us, I have been cheating a bit I hide small part in regular airmail envelopes. Will check my bag of tricks.

Welcome Ben.

I've been fooling around with this for about 2 months and have taken Mark's Level 1 and 2 courses. I suspect that in order to replace a missing jewel you're going to need to be able to insert it into the cavity (possibly with a tool that I don't have yet) and then measure that it is at the proper depth (so you have the correct end shake).

Mark doesn't cover that in any detail in his first 2 courses.

Although I have some Seiko quartz watches, I've not tangled with one of their mechanicals (not sure what their 6139 goes in).

Thanks @Nucejoe. I will keep my eyes peeled for spares. @grsnovi - about the same amount of time as I’ve been playing around with it too. I have the horia style jewlling tool and bits to fit it. Will be having a practice on a defunct Seiko 5 before taking the plunge but without the jewel I might be best off waiting for a complete mainplate.
