Hello all,

My name is Roger Leighton. I have inherited an Omega Seamaster with the 1342 calibre.

The watch worked but would occasionally pause for an hour at 7 o'clock.

Sent it to Omega who returned it as unrepairable. 

Can anyone advise if these is a chance of getting it going again?

Hello Roger and welcome to the forum.  as the watch is electric/mechanical  we have to consider both areas.  does the watch stop at 7 oclock all the time, you say it pauses for an hour does it then restart on its own.  or do you have to do anything to restart it   we say 7 oclock is that am or pm or both. can you post some pictures of the watch also    thanks

The watch pauses at 7 pm and am, then resumes an hour later.

So it stops every 12 hrs for an hour then resumes for the next 12 and repeats the cycle.  First thing to do is to change the battery or verify that its good, but better to change it. the fact that it stops and re starts its self would lead me to think is more electrical than a mechanical fault, ie  if it was a damaged tooth or dirt in the mech it woul stop and stay stopped untill it was shaken or the hands moved. start with the battery and see what the result is.   It takes a 388 battery  renata are the best.

I have changed the battery twice but it hasn't helped.

Apologies if I am repeating previous posts but I don't have much experience with these forums.

So the fault is the same with a new battery. One other thing i would do is to put it on a line release tool snd run the hands to check for blockages in the gear train. These are relativly inexpensive tools found on ebay. Two examples of which I have attached below. Remove the battery and place on the machine press button  If the hands spin round past the 7am and 7pm  ok then replace the battery and re try.    cheers

The above tester goes for between $40 and $50. Used versions of the watch are upwards of $400. Seems like spending a little on the tester would be worthwhile. If you are interested in fooling with watch repair long-term, go for it.

I've already spent more on various tools and haven't even gotten a single movement started back up...
