No more missing parts?

My new magnet has just arrived from Amazon.

I think I might have gone a bit overboard, the pp3 battery in the back is just for size reference. It should give me a good sweep area over my floor though

That looks strong enough to pick up brass parts!

Just watch out it does'nt pull the nails out of the floor boards when you do a sweep.

Stick it under the workbench top and all the flying parts will fly to it, 

Just make sure you demagnatize everything when finished

I was thinking of fixing it to the floor underneath my bench but the 'pull' doesn't cover that great a volume... it's just that when it gets close to anything ferrous it sticks like glue. It took some effort to get it off my bench chair with no flat surfaces, it's going nowhere near any of my watches or tools!!

In all honesty I bought it with half an eye on using it go magnet fishing, seems like fun, or a fad, anyone tried it?

No, but have thought about it.  Maybe this year on my annual canoe trip to the Boundary Waters...there are lots of stuff under water...knives, lures, gps units.  Fished a few out with a fishing hook.  Magnet would be easier.

Don't forget Guns, unexploded ordnance etc, magnet fishing can be fun, it's when the fun ends in a bang that you wish you had a different pastime

We have cheap magnet fishing setup on our boat. We tried it in our marina but really found nothing of interest or value. My wife pulled up a hearing aid battery once. 

Its a fun thing to try.
