Replacing a Longines quartz movement

I'm working on a Longines quartz watch with movement L156.2 that apparently had the coil gouged by a jeweler trying to change the battery. I am looking for a replacement, but the only replacements I'm finding are asking too much.

My research shows that this movement is based on ETA 255.412 which has been discontinued in favor of ETA E63.111.

Does this mean ETA E63.111 should be compatible with hands, date wheels, cases, etc. that use ETA 255.412?

What are the chances I can order an ETA E63.111 and use it in place of the Longines movement?

Most likely it is, but the good practice is that you compare all sizes from the technical sheets, available on ETA website or Google search.

The other variable to consider is the height of the hands pivots, but unless something is special with the watch, the standard ones should be fine.

Hi find attached the tec for the Eta movements     not found any on the  L156

Tjhis contains the physical measurements of the L156 so between all three sheets you should be able to make an informed desicion.          cheers.

Thank you all. This is very helpful.

All measurements match between the three, so I'll take the chance. The newer movement has an extra 2 jewels, but everything else looks the same.

I have a feeling the modification Longines made was moving the date to 6 o'clock. The newer movement seems to have options of 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock at the time of purchase.

I'll probably use the original date wheel, so that shouldn't matter too much, right? Am I correct in thinking that the only difference movement-wise between a date wheel at 3 or 6 is the orientation of the numbers on the date wheel?

That you can do only if the date ring interchanges between old and new, which isn't said.

Yes, but since you're intentioned to buy, get one with the correct date position.
