Question about Westminster wall clocks

I'm interested in purchasing one of these as a Christmas present, particularly a mechanical one, as I think they have such a pleasant, refined quality to them. Only roblem is the frequency with which the chimes sound, i.e. every quarter hour. I love the chimes, I just think there can also be too much of a good thing. Is there such a thing as a Westminster that only sounds on the hours of 12, 3, 6 and 9, or is that a different thing?

Hi and welcome to the forum.     westminsters chime on the quarters, there is some time a lever for silencing the chimes and others with a night shut off so they chime during the daylight hours only and not at night.   There are also some that have switchable chines using both the westminster and the wittington.     https://www.clocksandchimes.co.uk/shop/faq-glossary/

This site gives a copmrehensive briefing on the clocks.      https://www.giftoftimeclocks.com/clock-chimes.html

Hope there is enough data for you to peruse.   cheers

It is polite on this forum before posting to introduce one’s self.
