APC UPS failed self test...look what I found

Recommended Posts

I run my PC off an APC UPS because power can go out briefly here during a storm.

Recently the UPS started beeping because it failed self test.

It is only a little over two years old...batteries should still be good, but I ordered another set anyway.

Today I replaced them.

I always disassemble the old batteries because it is possible that only one is going bad--I can use the other for one of my projects.

This is what happened when I disassembled them...the positive terminal just came out of the crimp!!  Should not happen.  Quite possibly, the self test was detecting some resistance in that path and thus failing.  Batteries are probably still good.
