Attaching glass

I am putting back together this French alarm clock. For the most correct result, what was originally used to keep the glass steady under the top plate? I have a big play, strangely I don't remember anything was there when I took it apart.

A French carriage clock case. If you have cleaned the case and glass I expect it was more likely tight due to dirt and dried Brasso. Sometimes cork can hold it in place. The other thing would be have a better fitting glass cut. It will cost a bit. Are the others OK.

Hmm.. there was no dirt to speak of. Cork seems just right, will have to get a sheet.

I think it's the original and I want to keep it. The door one was broken, but local glass supplier won't cut bevels on it as it's too thin. So I've got a grinding wheel for glass and tried myself, without too much success so far. But I know it can be done, I'm just a bit swamped at this time.
