Back Again - Broadband's Been Down

Recommended Posts

Just in case anyone's been wondering - my broadband's been down since Tuesday and came back sometime last night. I've just spent the last hour clearing up about 200 emails!

It turned out to be an exchange problem... I've been with BT Infinity for about 18 months and this is the first time there's ever been a problem. I have to say the team were very responsive and helpful - even from several thousand miles away!

Hello Will, Just a few thoughts

We all rely so much on our systems these days and when they are down it has evolved into a worry.

A lot of the more "distinguished" members on the forum will remember when we did not even have a phone in the house and the TV was monochrome.  When phones did come in they were giant black bakelite things that only rang once a week.  Really important and urgent news was delivered by telegram often received with trepidation.

Wireless communication was science fiction.

Was it better then - its easy to get wrapped up in nostalgia but the fact is, that in my view, it is all down to communication which is a good thing.

Having said that there is a price to pay in frustration and annoyance etc. especially with systems when they fail.  I just upgraded from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2013 on my pc and have spent a while sorting out my mail as well.  I am now determined to unsubscribe from a stack of stuff mainly from companies I have bought something from, usually a one off item.

I still maintain that communication is a good thing but unwanted, bad, pointless, irritating communication and spam generally makes steam come out of every orifice.

I feel so much better now

Good to have you back.

Cheers,

Vic

Hi Vic,

you forgot the spinning disc to dial...or simply no disc, just action the hook several times for the operator! :)

Cheers,

Bob
