Need an Orient cal. 46E40 mainspring replacement

Recommended Posts

:pulling-hair-out:

I managed to mangle the mainspring of my Orient calibre 46E40 into a complete mess trying to wind it into my mainspring winder. So, I need a replacement.

Naturally this calibre doesn’t seem to be listed anywhere (?) and so I will have to find a GR replacement, and that’s where I need your advice.

The measurements of the original mainspring are as follows:
0.95 x .115 x 370 x 10.55 Automatic (Height x Thickness x Length x Barrel Diameter)

However, the closest to a replacement I seem able to find is a mainspring (GR2378X cousinsuk.com) with the following dimensions:
0.95 x .12 x 400 x 10.5 Automatic

The question is if this replacement mainspring would work, or if I should try to find something else? Which of the dimensions can or cannot be compromised?

I'm having a terrible time getting the GR2378X spring to yield any kind of power reserve. I've tried three different copies and the best I got was 24 hours. Looked through the Seiko section in the Generale Ressorts catalog and for several similar automatic Seikos the GR2378X spring is the recommended spring. I believe the problem is the bridle which is quite different on the GR spring compared to the Seiko spring. For more info see this post (and thread).

Just thought I'd update this thread in case someone stumbles upon it in the future.
