Sovereign - 1 Jewel w/ interesting escape and Pallet

Recommended Posts

Not sure if anyone is interested in this sort of stuff.  But... I just tore down a $5 watch from ebay.

One jewel Sovereign - and it looks like a GBF-875 on one of the plates/bridges.

Just practicing my nascent skills.

Anyway - it has an interesting/different pallet and escape mechanism.  See the photos.

And I will be danged if I can find where the "one jewel" actually is.

Baumgartner 875 with one jewel in the balance cock? Maybe yours has gone missing.

I find the limits to the arc of the pallet fork interesting on these old pin pallet movements. They seem to always avoid the conventional banking-pin solution. Sometimes it's a fork either side of the escape wheel pivot, but in this case the pins just bottom out in the teeth of the escape wheel, if I'm seeing correctly.

Ok - this might be better in the Repair topic now, nut will ask anyway.

Is there any secret, or technique to having the balance wheel installed so that it works with the pallet for properly.   I am watching this video, and he just seems to plop the balance complete in there.  During the install, do I need to do anything to align the wheel with the pallet fork?

BTW - this is the furthest I have gotten on putting a watch back together w/o breaking a pin or losing a screw ;-)
