Just a quick question

Is there anyone out there repairing watch parts ?

Specifically pallet forks and the complete balance's or do people dispose them for new parts.

I have a few bits lying around and it seems a shame to throw them away.

Hi Dave  I reckon like me they all hang on to the parts and re use what they can.  Re springing balances and re staffing are only done on an ad hoc basis when parts cannot be got . Its always prudent to keep redundant bits. I have a drawer or two full of old watches and scrap movements.

Depends on how rare they are. You can put a new staff in a balance . Pallet fork? Sure it can be done but they should be rare if it should be worth it.  All depends on how rare they are.

I was thinking about the spare balance I have for my Seiko 6309a, it needs a new hairspring and wondered if there were people out there who repaired them, knowing that its not a job for faint hearted. I also have two pallet forks, one with a jewel very loose and the other, the jewels have pushed too far into the setting. I don't usually like to throw things away, especially if there's a chance that they can be repaired.

With something like a 6 series Seiko I wouldn't even dream of it.
I have a drawer full of 20+ 6309's for scrap parts.

Something like an Omega Marine (19.4) or  Rolex (645) - I absolutely would fix parts and try and re-use.
