Mov't ID

Recommended Posts

OK, whatever it is, is quite poor. The rotor ball bearing is so lose to freely oscillate just 3 secs. The reversing wheel aren't much better, they get stuck and they have no under plate on the auto bridge, so auto winding is marginal to say politely. An SII or Miyota would have been better. I could shame the "brand" but I will not since I feel good today :)

Don't know what it's based on but you can't argue with a trace like that.
It bears great similarity (albeit much more nicely finished), to the movement i'm looking at just now for a fella on here. Take away the auto works and it's a commonly seen chinese design movement but there are many variations and many names.
is the watch a known brand like Parnis? they typically use a small selection of movement providers and might help narrow it?

    • it's unfortunate that something that can look so pretty in a picture can turn out very poor. On the other hand it's an opportunity to make something much nicer. Like for instance when I'm doing this I'm looking at my computer and the desk I made so it fit the space that I had it met my requirements because I couldn't find anything that was suitable for a computer desk for me. As much as I like my watch bench I would really like modifications like it would be nice to have drawers on both sides of the bench. The entire left-hand side is open and basically it's wasted space. when you're starting out it seems like the bench is a vast open space but it's amazing how fast it gets filled up and then you run out of space.
    • Cut, filed and staged for tomorrow. For 7 drawers.  The oak   The Poplar
    • All of the watch mainsprings I'm aware of can potentially be hand wound into the barrel, some are just more tricky than others - some shapes or types of mainspring can be awkward regardless of method. Having a pre-wound mainspring is nice when everything is going to plan.
    • It should only slip to prevent overwinding, otherwise sliding and slipping of the mainspring in the barrel of an automatic will result in very low amplitude and poor running conditions or may not run at all. This why I never oil an automatic MS, even the slightest bit of oil drops the amplitude a clean dry spring with kluber on barrel wall yield 280+ without fail. For me at least can’t speak for others and not going to say my method is the answer. I would say a dry lube is best for a MS if anything. And as most say a lot of new mainsprings come with dry lube ready to be installed.
