Seiko 5139A 27 Jewel - Oil, Oil, Oil Everywhere !

I disassembled a Seiko 5139A today and discovered oil—and it is green. The entire movement down to the bare plate was covered in oil. No wonder the amplitude was almost nothing and the Balance was straining to move.

Hi probably been lubricated with telus 33 hydraulic oil its green, or duckhams 10/40  yuck  happy cleaning

If it was a pocket watch sometimes overenthusiastic lubrication of the mainspring causes something like this to happen as it leaks out.

Then it used to be watchmakers especially those into production would use a novel lubrication method. It was usually dissolved in the last rinse of the watch cleaning fluid and went by a variety of names. So basically your nice clean watch would go to the final rinse with lubrication all over everything, oh and the watch was not disassembled it was run complete minus hopefully the calendar parts. Conveniently doesn't seem to exist anymore but here's an example for clock people at the link below.
