Love these old wooden boxes, plastic just has no soul when it comes to tool storage.

If the screws are all that’s holding the top, you may consider taking the top off (remove screws), clean the wood surface(gently sand it) and use some modern wood glue and replace the screws until it cures. Wood glue these days is an entirely different beast than only a few years ago.
