Movement winding in hand setting position

Hi guys, I’ve been following the course. I’ve taken the the 6497 apart and rebuilt it a few times before I move onto oiling it. No issues up until now.This particular time during reassembly when I turn the crown in both positions the watch winds....

 

The winding pinion is not staying stationary in the hand wind position and is turning and obviously winding the movement. I had a good look at it and I can’t visually work out what I’ve done wrong. I imagine it’s something within the keyless so when when I get the chance I’ll strip it down and rebuild it.

 

Assuming that it is the keyless and everything works when I put it together again, does anyone know where I’ve gone wrong as I’ll never know (assuming all is fine after trying again)?

Do the hands move in the time setting position?

So the sliding pinion must be moving correctly to engage with the setting wheels. My only guess is that the winding pinion is somehow binding on the stem.

Yeah that’s correct the sliding pinion is doing its job.

That’s a good shout, maybe it’s catching on the stem somehow.
