Broken stem in Seiko 6m13

I have a Seiko age of descovey 6M13 the stem broke in half with the stem still in the movement. I have tried the typical release button but it won't slide out on its own. Is there any tips or tricks to removing it.

 

Any help is appreciated.

Is there anything left of the thread inside the movement? 

A stem extension in the right size to thread on the remaining thread could work. Or you will have to take the movement out of the case? Gentle knock at the same time as you press the release button?

Tried the knocking while pressing the release- didn't work.
I will try a stem extension.
