How do you replace a split stem?

Any useful tips for putting back together a two piece stem?  I am having a terrible time putting the movement back in the case with the stem intact in a front access benrus. Got it out easy enough, it just won't go back in.

Normally you'd leave the movement side piece engaged in the movement, make the stem completly vertical or horizontal (your choice) put the case tegether and then try and engage the stem together, putting the other piece in completly vertical or horizontal whatever you picked with the first, you have to push in fairly hard, just be confident you have the stem parts lined up and it should be fine, in theory.

Usually just snaps in when it  is in the right place?  You will have to show us how it looks inside the case?  Does the dial rest on something or is it like a Omega dynamic?
