Seiko 6020A/Loose Jewel

Hello Everyone! hope everyone having a nice new years!

It's been pretty busy since summer. Mostly standard overhauls and custom crystal cuttings. Nothing too exciting.

Here one that I'm working on now. Seiko 6020A came in with a battery that leaked and was sitting in there for ever. Also a loose ruby. I haven't really encounter a jewel coming out before. Couldn't really find much online regarding resetting stones. I do have a full  staking set, and also jewellers stone setting tools. Was thinking maybe do it like a channel set stone where you would just compress each side of the metal to try and tighten the stone. Still trying to think of other ways. I think i read on the forums somewhere that they used some glue? that didn't seem like the best option.

If anyone have some insight and able to share your experience with me that would be greatly appreciate.

I've looked into a replacement movement from a few supplier but non have it in stock anymore. and non offer and option for a modern replacement.

Still waiting to hear from Seiko so hoping they will have a replacement movement for it.

Mkay.

ya its on the main plate, I will have to look over all my watch stuff this weekend also. Was more hoping to reset the ruby. Or have a compatible available before I dig around for parts.

If you can beg, buy or borrow a jewelling press then the right answer to this is to fit a jewel with same hole size but the next size up external diameter.  Jewlling presses come with specially sized reamers to ensure you open up the hole in the plate perpendicular with the correct interference fit.

Mark explains here how to do all this...
