Seeking Jaguar expert advise.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I was looking for a first car for my youngest daughter, who starts college next year and I've found this one so, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask this questions to the mechanics and mechanic knowledgeable people in our forum:

What is your opinion about an S-type Jaguar, 2005 with 114000 miles?

What would it be worth considering it looks in pretty good condition?

The owner said the dealer changed the transmission and the dashboard gauges (?) and it is still within the 1 year warranty.

Your input is really appreciated!

Cheers,

Bob

Thanks Vinn, but as I said, the transmission is already repaired (exchanged) by the dealer. In any case, she won't be able to drive stick shift anyway...I'm stuck with autos no matter what I choose!

I'm just a little put off because of the age and high mileage...any advise or comments? Thanks!

Cheers,

Bob

S-stype Jaguar are essentially Ford based. They are better than X-type, stay away from X-type as they have issues. The best are the XJ8 from what I have seen. The s-type should be fine considering that the trans was just replaced. Make sure you as for paperwork to prove the work was done though.

The XJ8 have BMW transmissions, but they are about 1500-2000$ to replace if they go bad.

The S-type from what I understand is a ford taurus based model from the particular generation that Bob is looking into. The XJ8's from 97-2003 have BMW seven series trans. The only difference is that one piece of the trans (I forget which) is mounted on the opposite side for the Jag, so a straight swap from a BMW is not possible.

Thanks guys, that's very informative. I don't really like Fords! Yes, I'll request the trans paperwork if I decide to go that route...Have you heard of any electrical problems or anything this car may be prone to show?

Cheers,

Bob
