Is this a waste of cash or not

Recommended Posts

Still in LA and spare time led me back to the bay.

I found a sale of parts from an estate and was tempted.  The parts appear to be enough to put most of the watch back together but then again perhaps not.  They are for an Elgin 27 Jewel 761 automatic and cost $17.90 inclusive of postage (about £13.77). What's the verdict.  I have not owned or worked on one of these,I know it is not very valuable but looks like it may be ok if it works out and it comes with the 14 k RGP case.

Being a bit of a elgin fan I'd give it a go but from the photos there seems to be a few parts missing would you be able to find them and cheap enough the 761 usually commands a high price when running and cased I know ive watched a few slip out of reach because they left my price bracket its not a cheap watch. The 761 had the durabalance which some people hate and others love because of its uniqueness but some people say its unreliable because the little weights can't be poised correctly. I would have to give it a try at least to bring it back from the dead.

Thanks for the advice CAD I have sort of made my bed now but I am intrigued by your comment about a durobalance which I was not aware of.  When it arrives I will find out a bit more.  There seems to be some stuff in the tin just out of sight, fingers crossed,

Cheers,

Vic
