Any idea why this is here?

Hi, there!

I have a Services "Aerist" wrist watch, (Cal 291) with a broken click spring.

After stripping it and with every component removed, I noticed a similar looking spring (See the picture) that is sandwiched between the plates and it does absolutely nothing, apart from sit there. (It does not protrude either side of the plate it is secred to)

It's not secured with a screw, just what looks like a push fit metal plug. (The same as the click spring on the other side is held in place with)

I have tried to remove the plug holding the 'spare' click spring, but it will not budge.

So, the question is this...........why is this spring there?

Sorry the quality is not as good as it could be, but my ipad is all that I have available.

That must have some use?Looks like a brake? of some sort? Is there something that should sit in there? From this side or the other side? 

And keep it there? Clean it as best you can?

I must own up that, rather foolishly, I have found the answer to my question.

It's the clutch lever spring!

(Going into hiding now!)
