I know a lot of us have seen the ansonia clocks, some of us would say no

Not very well made, but a lot of them are still going, one day they may even be worth something

Well I bought one, not quite sure why, it's not been touched since the year dot, but it would give me something to do.

It was filthy ,and those long barreless mainspring are a real pain, so I was thinking of the easiest way out, so I clamped the mainsprings, I expect a lot of you have already done this, I took out most of the train wheels , cleaned them and the same with all the bushes.

One of the bushes was too far gone

As I say I didn't feel like taking the clock completely to pieces, as there's pain, I have a cunning plan for bushings these & fitting the bushes in.

Once you have the correct size bush I have adapted a pair of mole grips, don't laugh, by filing the surface of the jaws flat you have a portable press, I've used it many times with great success.

I will post some pics when I get around to it of the movement.

And yes the clock runs great.

With these clocks be careful not to bend the leavers on the strike side because they can cause you all sorts of problems. That is the correct way clamping the springs. The plates are quite thin when it comes to bushing this type of clock. They are also quite noisy even when oiled properly, it's because of the lantern pinions, the trains are rough and ready but they are many years old and some are in the most delightful cases.
