Slava 2414 clamps screws

Hello,

This is my first message, so I hope I am posting in the right section.

My request concerns a Slava 2414 russian movement.

It fell down a long time ago, breaking both clamp screws.

Now that I have fallen in the "watch repair" craze, I am trying to buy replacement screws, but was not able so far to find them.

I purchased clamp screws for a 2428 movement from Cousins UK (thinking that 2414 & 2428 movements were sharing the same base), but they proved too large.

Does someone know a source (or at least the size I should search) ? See photo of broken screws (in non-Imperial measure, sorry, posting from France).

When it comes to replacement screws, we usually get a few lots of assorted screws, either from Cousins or eBay. If you are lucky, you'll find an exact match, if not, a similar thread but different head design or length.

Sometimes I modify screws by rethreading a close match and reshaping the head and screw length. So far I've not made a screw from scratch yet but that's another possibility.

Hello Nucejoe.

Yes, apart from these broken screws, the movement works well.

As a complete beginner, I didn't dare so far to perform a complete service. But it may come one day.

Hi Colchibani.

Due to the low price of this Slava watches, what I would do is to buy a donor. You can find them quite cheap and, well, maybe if you need a functional balance or a mainspring it's not the best idea, but for those screws I guess you can get them from a donor.

It's an option I will consider if the screw size prove to be non-standard.

Currently, I am planning to first purchase a digital caliper to precisely measure them. Head diameter is 2 mm, length 2mm as well, but my old caliper is too worn for the thread diameter. It may be 0.9 or 1.0 mm.

Actually, I finally did both.

I bought a digital caliper that measured 0.9 mm for the screws.

And I bought a spare movement, without case, but with both clamps & screws.

It will arrive in a few weeks.

And, when searching for these screws, I found exactly the same russian watch I am trying to repair, in good condition, and for a bargain price (see photo). I bought it as well, but I will repair the other one anyway.

The travel is the journey !

It's a disease. After you get the donor, you'll want to repair that too.
