Hello everyone!  I'm a longtime watch aficionado, that has zero practical experience.  I just have begun a journey through theory, reading and trying to learn as much as possible and this is how I discovered this community.

My "presentation card" so to speak as of now consists of very basic watches, but with an eye for unique time pieces ideally automatic or mechanical.

What brought me here now is that I inherited from my father a Gucci watch, which I would like to use for daily wear for sentimental reasons. Unfortunately it is not working.  I would be so greatly appreciate if I could get some guidance as to where to begin, or even if I should attempt to repair it myself as a first time project. When I took it to have the battery replaced I was told that due to lack of maintenance and moisture, the circuit board(?) should be replaced.

Sorry for the long intro.  Hope to keep learning from all of you here!

Thank you for your interest.  Unfortunately I cannot remove the case back, I had tried but apparently I don't have the proper equipment to do so.  At the watch repair shop where I took it, they told me it's a "top of the line " movement- if you could label it as such for a quartz movement. They gave it to me closed and at least removed the battery before it could leak and cause further damage.  That's all the info I could gather.

Welcome to the friendliest forum in horology! Did you see the battery replacer open the case? The case back should have a barely discernable groove between the back and the case, probably at the top or bottom between the lugs. A case knife inserted and pushed into the groove should pop the case back open. Remove the back and take pictures of the movement and post them here. Be careful not to touch anything inside the case with unprotected fingers ... wear gloves or finger cotts or use tweezers.

We all look forward to your contributions and continued involvement.

If there is anything we can help you with don’t be afraid to ask. Nice clear photos can help a lot.

Was it an actual watch repair shop or just somewhere that changes batteries?

The most recent Gucci watch I serviced had an ETA 955. movement in it. They are very nice quartz movements, and fairly cheap should you need to replace it. Caseback knives are cheap, pop it open and let us see what you have.
