I think it is quite elegantly designed and provides a safety mechanism for the quickset operation, so if you try to use quickset just before or after the date change this will slip and not break the calendar wheel tooth. It has to be parted and lubricated properly so it has the ability to slip. The service manual shows how to do that in the last pic

Finished! Well, not quite, but I've done all I can. I used the original hand for the minute counter. The running seconds hand is a central seconds hand with an extended tube - I just snapped off the long bit. It works I think. As I couldn't source an hour reset hammer I left the hour counter hand off. I hope the owner will be happy. It's all working and keeps good time. I did recommend he got a professional to do a proper job, and he could still do that in future if he wanted to sell.

you can do it, you just have to drive the pin out with a pin smaller in diameter than the band pin....

possibly a threaded gear or t-piece stem, I can not see inside the gear recess an ascertain if it contains a screw.....I am sure someone here has delt with one of these case crowns....
