I just bought a 1963 ladies Rolex Tudor Oyster Royal, calibre (ETA) 1173, case reference 7935

The case is Rolex and needs a new screw-down pendant tube - the external threads are worn away.
Also, the crown  just spins and won't wind. I guess fixing these is impossible, so I'll need a new crown.

Of all things watch related, I know very little about screw down crowns and how to replace them = help 🥴

The pendant tube is screwed in, and smooth inside. So how do you remove them - just jam something in and turn?

Pendant tubes (and some crowns) seem to be generally available for Rolex, so I'm looking for a part numbers.
Can anyone help me with part numbers for pendant tube and crown for Rolex case 7935 ?

I don't know but it seems strange that the inside is smooth, usually have splines. I would heat the case to break any threadlocker and gently try turning with long nose pliers but someone may give you better advice.

Yes basically that's it but there specific tools.

https://www.cousinsuk.com/search?searchTerm=pendant tube tool

The first place I looked, but all the tools seem to be for tubes with an internal spline. I guess I could just ram one in and turn 🥴

All the usual places don't show any details for the 7935.

Which is why I asked. I'm pretty good at finding tech sheets etc, but so far have been unable to find anything on Rolex case part numbers. (I tried " ROL CS#7935" on Jules Borel, but it only gave the crystal)

I've never worked on one with splines and that's what I've always done.

In the past I've even just used a torx bit.

Edit

What size is the tube & crown?

The tube external thread is about 3.8mm, not easy to measure as the thread is nearly gone. The inner thread is about 2.25mm - I'll measure it properly when I get it out. The crown is 5.2mm. It's original Rolex with crown, so would be a shame to have to use a generic

I have a set of torx screwdrives. Perfect for the job, it came out without a fight.

It measures up to the one you show 😀

Looking for screwdown crown, I notice that there are two sizes of threads for the inside of the crown, 0.25mm and 0.35mm.
It doesn't say which this tube is, I guess 0.25mm?

Where did you get these thread sizes?

Are you looking for an original crown?

I found that one on Gleaves, and on Cousins, but 7935 is not in the list of case numbers. The reference pendant tube is C8359 - threads are the right size, but the spline to fit it is only 1.6mm

The 1.6mm spline is because on the 24.5300.00 they're in the tube where 2.7mm splines on the 24.5330.0 are on the top.

Yours is just a flat top, not a step with a raised bubble like the ones on cousins.

Not flat but curved, I wondered what the 'bubble' meant.

It looks like this one - which is just 2x what I paid for the watch !

Just found this on Esslinger, which seems to have every Rolex case but my 7935 !

EDIT
Just discovered that these crowns can be disassembled.  If I can find a small spring to replace the broken one  it might be OK. Not sure where I can find such small springs 1.35mm dia

Did you see the link to the crown i posted?

Was thinking about maybe a pusher spring but the smallest I can see is 1.5mm

Edit

Just remembered about this place.

I think there's enough thread left in the crown to re-use it.  I must have a tiny spring somewhere in some gadget.

I still need to find the part number to get the correct tube - ideally from someone with Rolex reference documents, @JohnR725 or @nickelsilver ?

From what I can see if it's a 2.5mm thread for the case then it's 24.5300, 25.5320 or 24.5330.

The only difference between them is the spline location and length.

Are there definitely no flutes in the bottom of the tube?

Tudor

the problem seems to be very little technical documentation. This happened before when somebody asked about anything for this brand there's just like nothing. Whereas Rolex all kinds of documentation exists just not for that case number.

    • Righty ho, I re-serviced the chrono module and got a reasonable result with minimal loss of amplitude when not running the chrono and about 30 degrees loss when running. Great. The problem is now that the chrono (and movement) stops running after about a minute or so, a tap on the watch starts it running again. No issues with the movement running when the chrono is stopped. Going to service it yet again, obviously some residual issues with friction in the chrono module (Very frustrating - I wish there was some way of testing it as I go!) I also seem to have a problem with the cannon pinion where the movement is running continuously (with the chrono stopped) but it's losing significant time / stopping. This is one of those two piece ETA style with a driving wheel pressed over the cannon pinion, obviously arranged for driving the chrono module. I had no issues with this prior to service and just added a small amount of grease between the driving wheel and the centre cannon pinion as the technical guide required. What's the best way of tightening these up? I would like to replace it but I guess this is going to be hard to find as it is dedicated to the DD chrono movement.
    • He uses the micrometer cap, but he leaves the spring out (you can see that in the video). If you leave the spring in, the spindle will move up as well (as shown by @Knebo).
    • Seems like he doesn't have the micrometer cap  attached to the spindle so he can only push down but cannot pull up? If the cap screws into the spindle I guess you don't need the spring? I only have a "normal" Seitz so I really have no idea.
    • Do you have a part number for the bearing shim lock tool?
    • Yes in my opinion the 3/4HP is plenty but it’s your decision & yes it does come with speed control but foot operation so my reason for changing to potentiometer was because my leg shakes so it was like me revving the lathe & anyway I prefer to set the speed. I & a few others that I recommended the motor to run a Pultra 10mm lathe so if you have a 6 or 8mm B & L then it will be plenty, if you have seen any of my videos you will have seen that when using a graver I run quite slow without any problems.
