Rolex Precision 6426 Generic Crystal

Recommended Posts

I ordered a generic crystal for a 6426 from Cousins the case no came up with a Sternkreuz xs293.156 No 12 Rolex generic tropic glass.

The problem is it doesn't fit , not even nearly the bezel which on the old crystal applies pressure to hold it tight is loose on the replacement.

Just wondered if anyone else had had a problem with these and where i might source a better fitting replacement

I don,t know if this applies to the Rolex 6426 but most Rolex crystals have a Rolex logo hologram at 6 o,clock. (Can be scene with a led light & loupe) If so fitting a Generic will devalue the watch.

Thanks CB , modern Rolex's do indeed have the etched crown, i think it was from around 2005 (i'm probably wrong lol) ? this is an early vintage 1960's model so the etched rolex crown won't be a problem , the problem was more trying to source a genuine replacement as it was not available via Cousins due to the restrictions already imposed , which as we know are going to get worse very soon.

Do you know where i might be able to source a genuine crystal as generic wasn't my first choice but was the only choice through Cousins , albeit a bad choice as it doesn't fit unfortunately.

many thanks Andy

I think the laser etching of the crystals first appeared on some of the post 2001 Rolex models I believe if memory serves me well.

I personally would go with a genuine Rolex crystal over a generic if I could source one because as clockboy says, it would devalue the watch somewhat to fit a generic.

Thanks guys and i totally agree about the generic crystal and if it was my watch i would fit the genuine one every time , but this one is for a friend who is a bit stingy shall we say , but i will tell him.

Thanks again  ;-)

    • Never seen that but yes very practical Hector
    • Welcome, Simeon! I'm into Soviet watches too (not the political system, and yes, I am able to make the distinction, unlike some). They offer amazing value for money. I like your "Big Zero" profile image. It's a true classic and I have one of those myself. I noticed that the hands aren't the original. Not that it matters a lot but here's an interesting article about the Big Zero if you haven't already seen it.
    • I was thinking will the gasket stretch at all to match the desired size.  Did i also deduce that the original gasket is thinner (0 .5mm ) than the cousins gasket ( 0.8mm )  could that just be an effect of you measuring the case for the gasket size  H  ?
    • if we look at and understand why steel becomes magnetised and unmagnetised then its possible to work out why some devices are better than others. Simpy it is a parallel alignment of atoms , electrons within a material caused by external magnetic fields. Different magnetic fields cause different alignments and non alignment of atoms. Fields by AC currents are changing atom direction approx 50 times per second ( 50hz ). As a material is drawn away from a demagging device the field is becoming progressively weaker while also changing the material's atom direction having the effect of returning their random directions ( demagnetising ) . To improve on this demagetising effect, try changing the material's orientation as it is drawn away.  Fields caused by DC currents have the most permanent magnetising effect as the currect is flowing one way only. A good demagger would produce random magnet fields and disorientation of the material's atoms.
