Escapement Schatz Ship bell

This is my first post in the forum so I hope I get this right.

I'm about to clean and lubricate the escapement for this Schatz Ship Bell, 8 day, 7 jewels. 

I'm unsure how to access the jewels. Should I lift the upper plate with the hairspring or do I need to detach it?

It feels awkward to lift the spring in the outer circle when the balance wheel looks heavy and I don't want to risk bending it.

Any advice is highly appreciated
