New guy here!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm from the pacific north west. I'm pretty new to watch repair and modding. I've primarily just be doing basic cleaning and a few batteries. But I have some interest in modding, and possibly even getting into restoring some older mechanical pieces down the line.

Things I've been contemplating and looking at modding/fixing are:

Gen 1 Fossil Hybrid HR

-I really want to put a sapphire crystal on it

-it's got the common fogging issue, even after a trip to the repair center where they gave me all new internals and gaskets

Bertucci A-T2 super classic

-interested in a mechanical movement for it

-I've been having issues with it loosing time ever since a battery change

    • Does the lip stop the notched ring coming out caseback side ?
    • Hello everyone. My name is Gary.  I’ve been hobby fixing for just a few months now and have turned out several Seiko 7009A, 6309 and 7s26 movements with varying success.  my first movement was a tiny Cyma 424. (In at the deep end for size).  I’m currently working on a sentimental Garret ETA 2391 for my Father in law.
    • Thanks for all the replies.  I'll investigate further.  I never noticed the lip and @Michael1962, I think I will have to form a tool to undo the ring and see what happens. I'll see if I can get some more pics.
    • Hi John, The most important parameter of the spring is the thickness. The lenght is something that one would not consider as obligatory, as relatively big variations will not affect anything in significant way. The barrel size is related to the barrel and has nothing to do with the spring. Yes, the spring is designed to work in a barrel and the size of the barrel matters, but let this parameter be chosen by the movement manyfacturer, not by the sping manyfacturer who doesn't have idea in what kind of movement the spring will work. Sometimes the washer in which the spring arrives will be bigger than the barrel and there will be no way to just push the spring in the barrel and be happy. Well, if this is a problem for somebody, then probably He is a person with to many problems that will be verry hard to help to in any way. By the way, why You are changing the spring? Is the old one broken?
