Offset cannon pinion removal, Movado 389

Recommended Posts

When I've come across offset cannon pinions in the past, the dial-side gearing has always had a pinion resting in a hole or jewel for stability. Not here though.

For this Movado 389 movement, the wheel shaft on the train side apparently runs through the mainplate, necessitating separation.

My first inclination is to use a Presto 3 (blue handle) 5-spoke wheel remover since a cannon pinion remover won't fit over the gearing on the dial side.

Just seeing if anyone has any other best practices or experience with this situation.
