However, I put any small parts in those little mesh baskets, sometimes up to 6-7 small baskets, some with only 2 screws in. So I know which basket goes with each slot on the parts tray I make sure I place in a 'clue part' for example the escape wheel, instead of putting it in the main wash basket i include it in the small parts basket.

Just to diverse for a moment.  The small mesh baskets from cousins,  the mesh holes are quite large compared to the expensive brands. I've had the escape wheel teeth  get stuck in the holes more than once, not much else get caught up maybe the odd pivot. But escape teeth just seem to have the right spacing, the last time i almost had to ragg it free. Anyone else experiencing this with those cheap type of baskets ?

I've had small screws stuck, thus washing them separately, same with small springs.

Thats another reason i hand clean those, i cant bring myself to pay over 180 quid for 6 bergeon baskets add another 25% to that for elma.

Me! Sometimes cheap is too cheap. Hunt the tea baskets where the mesh is small or there’s coffee baskets with dotted perforations instead of mesh…

The springs slide through the mesh then want to become airborne when trying to free them

They could be lined inside with finer mesh, its available with as small as  0.05mm holes that pivots won't even fit through . I wouldn't expect fluid to flow through it very well in a rotary washer though. Might be an option in an ultrasonic machine. Can be bought in A4 sheets of many different mesh sizes , finding a good balance between fluid flow through and part retention shouldnt be too difficult if the standard baskets are a problem .

These mesh baskets are really good. Much better quality than the cheap ones you can buy from Cousins and very similar to Bergeon or Elma ones for three times the price. I use these for all my small parts and screws the escape wheel teeth don't get stuck in the mesh either. The 10 I bought some months ago aren't for sale anymore, but these look the same. The top doesn't screw on or has a tight fit, but that doesn't matter when used in a rotary cleaner where the top tray keeps the lids in place.

Thanks Jon, these look far better quality than the cousins value baskets.

I hear you, one trick I picked up is to lay an old crystal on top of the parts inside the basket, the weight of the crystal will keep them horizontal and unable to stand up and get stuck in the mesh. Also works for wire springs etc.

I'll be getting some of those fancy baskets @Jon recommended.

Wonder if it would be possible to punch a small dimple(s) in the lid or cage to make a friction fit?

@Jon Thanks for the tip 😉

Same as with the IOSS, when living in the reincarnation of the Soviet-Union, it's the AliExpress fine-print that warns you already: "For items delivered from outside the European Union, you may be subject to additional charges for VAT and, when applicable, customs duties in your country"

That's in Denmark already, by definition,  US$ 23.50 "handling fee" + 25% VAT.

I'll search inside the SU 😉

    • I'm a little confused here before servicing everything was fine and now it's not? Then I'm assuming if you run it without the chronograph modular runs just fine or does it give you problems then? Then as far as tightening goes I've occasionally seen people use a staking set and sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. You can also disassemble and flip it over that sometimes works. Otherwise try eBay and maybe one will come up. There is a tiny possibility if the Problem is on the gear part and not on the center tube that you could purchase a shorter version and pop it on your longer version that's a speculation on my part that may be that might work but if the tube itself is worn then you're going to have a problem then it's back to eBay and just try to find one in the first place all sorts of things will show up on eBay sooner or later.
    • Why do you need a whole balance assembly (balance complete)? Staffs are readily available and cheap.

    • Righty ho, I re-serviced the chrono module and got a reasonable result with minimal loss of amplitude when not running the chrono and about 30 degrees loss when running. Great. The problem is now that the chrono (and movement) stops running after about a minute or so, a tap on the watch starts it running again. No issues with the movement running when the chrono is stopped. Going to service it yet again, obviously some residual issues with friction in the chrono module (Very frustrating - I wish there was some way of testing it as I go!) I also seem to have a problem with the cannon pinion where the movement is running continuously (with the chrono stopped) but it's losing significant time / stopping. This is one of those two piece ETA style with a driving wheel pressed over the cannon pinion, obviously arranged for driving the chrono module. I had no issues with this prior to service and just added a small amount of grease between the driving wheel and the centre cannon pinion as the technical guide required. What's the best way of tightening these up? I would like to replace it but I guess this is going to be hard to find as it is dedicated to the DD chrono movement.
    • He uses the micrometer cap, but he leaves the spring out (you can see that in the video). If you leave the spring in, the spindle will move up as well (as shown by @Knebo).
