Smiths clock; Westminster Chimes unsynchronised

Firstly, I'd like you to name these parts of the mechanism please. 

Now to the problem.

We had noticed that two levers behind pivot A were the 'wrong' side of a cog wheel - they were positioned towards the back of the clock, so engaged with nothing. 

So we (I blame my significant other too! ) removed the lever arrowed and put it back again so that the two levers (hidden fron view) were towards the front of the clock - again presumably.

But now, the clock chimes too many notes. On the hour it plays the usual Westminster chime; followed by several repetitions of different notes - all in sequences of 4 bars - finally ending with an hour chime. 

My suspician is that by moving the (arrowed red) lever, it was then no longer in the correct position to connect with the rest of the cogs whatever  - B; C; D - 

HELP please - I have to days to complete the task . . . .
