New idea born from copulating K&D winders!!

Recommended Posts

Did I get your attention?

Yet again, today, I wound a mainspring into my K&D winder...IN THE WRONG DIRECTION!!

In the past, I have removed the MS from the winder and started over.  For the life of me, I cannot figure out how I get this wrong so often when I check my work ahead of time.

Today, I had the brilliant idea of flipping the MS by simply INSTALLING it into another winder!!  The leaves of the winders will interleave as I have shown.  Just pop the MS into the other winder and then it is oriented properly to put into the barrel.

You must have an extra tool.  For me, the person who is addicted to tools...I have many!!

The usual trick is to push it in to a washer to reverse it. I keep a collection of washers from the mainsprings I have installed.

Washers are a good idea.  I have used the retainers that come with new MSs before.  But often do not have the right size.  A collection of washers would be easy to come by for sure.  Since I have the extra K&D tool, my new method is a no brainer.
