Well I was expecting that the amplitude would rise, a bit, say 10-20deg... but from 220 to 290-295 (what??!!!) ... I guess you guys know a thing or two.

What's interesting is if you do experiments with lubrication like servicing a watch lubricating the key lists not lubricating the gear train balance escapement look at the amplitude preferably in two positions like dial down and crown down. Then start lubricating try something different try something heavy I have a watch that I'm doing HP 1300 which is very heavy. The typically when you start wailing the gear train the amplitude will go down because the lubrication as a dampening effect. Then lubricate the escapement and you will see as you've noticed a spectacular improvement. If there's any place in the watch that Apsley has to be lubricated it's escapement. Not that everything else doesn't have to be but you want a spectacular improvement lubricate the escapement.

Moebius Natural

Yes natural versus synthetic? So in addition to your grease being natural the 8000 oil and the D5 are both considered natural. In general people like Synthetic because they have longer life than the natural products.

    • I too have had a problem with residue from B-dip on hair springs. I bought a bottle of expensive B-dip and put mabe a 1/3rd of it into a separate (clean!) jar and has using it to clean pallet forks, balance and end stones. I am not sure when the problem started but I definitely have seen (at around 22x mag)  a residue on a balance cock and had hairspring coils sticking together.  I don't know if my B-dip has become contaminated but it looks clean and I have only been putting a select few dry components in there. To remove the residue I gave it a good rinse in naphtha (lighter fluid) and then a quick swish in IPA followed by some puffs from a blower to quickly evaporate the IPA before it damages the shellac.  This procedure has worked really well and I have had good results (better than naphtha alone)
    • Hello all I was wondering whether a staking set could be used to replace friction fit crown case tubes?
    • Could be that very reason that the ruby pin is bent, i did take a few photos but the issue doesn't show as bad as it is in the flesh. As it happens, i swapped out the balance and didn’t reposition the pallet pins because the tg trace and amplitude is amazing for a pin pallet. 2 + 3 pictures are DD at 1 hr and at 12hrs after fullwind, 4+5 pics  DU 1 hr and  12hrs and 6+7 pics are CD at 1hr and 12hrs
    • When demagnetizing a balance thats not in the movement, I put it in a small jar with some hexane and place that on the demagnetizer. That way the coils won't get damaged.
    • I get ya 👍, not a poundshop window sign that says "  cheap bargains galore " more of a " value for money treasures" moniker
