Ingersoll Pin Pallet Pocket Watch - Hands

Hi All

A few months ago when I began this watchmaking journey, I couldn't wait till my ST36 movement arrived, so I went to a local antique store and picked up an Ingersoll Pocket Watch so I could get crackin'.  I paid over the odds for it as you can imagine from an antiques shop.  I didn't know then that it was a pin pallet type watch and so all the videos I had watched to that point were all pretty much irrelevant.  It didn't take me long to find out a bit more and I disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt it - almost successfully - but I damaged the seconds hand beyond repair or use when removing.  

It runs well and keeps good time (it's not old-old, just a bit old) but is missing that last piece to make it whole again.  I keep it running when I spend time at the green mat as it has a soothing tick-tock about it.  I also have a Westclox Boyproof that I had to find a donor movement for as the main barrel had split - that's ready for reassembly but the donor had no hands at all.  Just waiting on my mainspring winders. That has a very similar movement.

So, if anyone can point me in the right direction or provide advice on how to search for hands it would be most appreciated.  You lot have never failed to come up with the goods to date and I am extremely grateful

Can you accurately measure the pvot diameter and the diameter of the scale on the dial?

I have noticed there are always a small number of merchants on Etsy (and Ebay too for that matter) who seem to be perpetually selling a small lot of old dollar watches for relatively cheap.  And single watches come up too.  And often you'll find a merchant who is selling a small lot of old pocket watch hands.
I do a bit of fixing-and-flipping with old watches, in addition to the repair work that I do for antiques dealers.  So a while back, I bought a couple sizable lots of assorted hands.  I think they were both from a dealer on Etsy.  Good price, and hands were nearly all in excellent shape.  I've used quite a few over time and still have many left.  I think it was a good bargain.

Yea I certainly can. I will have a look. Are you suggesting I search for the size after that or post on here?

Hi Jonno,

whether you search online or ask on here, you need to know what you're looking for, hence the measurements. Cousins have a huge selection of hands, so you'd be sure to find something suitable there, but maybe delivery to Australia is ridiculously expensive for just one item.

That's half the issue!  I am heading over to the UK in September - might order some parts to be delivered there!  I'll measure anyway and post sizes.

OK, so the pinion size is .45mm for the seconds hand.  Am I correct that it is a sub-seconds hand?

I have started searching and as noted by KarlvonKoln there are quite a few selling 'lots' of hands but with no pivot dia' sizes - so a bit of a gamble.  Almost cheaper to buy another Ingersoll watch haha!

So the seconds dial diameter is 10mm so I assume around 4 - 4.5mm from the centre for the hand.

I'll keep looking, but if anyone has any info - much appreciated.
