Watch tinkering in NC

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all!  After spending many an hour tinkering, reading FB group threads and of course taking Mark's online course I realized it was probably a really good idea to dive in here too.

I've tinkered with mechanical things all my life but never seriously.  It all started at age 5 with trying to figure out how a door handle works.  With access to Dad's tools I just dove it.  Of course I couldn't get it back together, just like the TV I got into not long after.  We won't talk about the consequences of both.  😄

Like many I suspect, the pandemic led me to find Mark's videos on You Tube.  So, here I am now with about a dozen or so new watch builds under my belt and now diving into tinkering with old watches.

Haha. I totaled my dads mini clubman van into the side of a house when i was 18. When he answered the door to the police he was asked if he was the owner of half a mini. 🤣

Oops forgot about totaling my dad's car on several occasions.

I dont think you can grow up properly if you haven't destoyed a vehical . It was the law where i came from.  I think we diverse, I'm sure this is the place where we talk about watches. 🤷‍♂️ . Anyway so Richard matey whats the plan with the smiths deluxe then ? Did you know that a modified smiths deluxe was the first watch to reach the summit of Everest. And that Rolex tried to publicly claim that title before they actually knew which was first. And had to officially apologise for their mistake. Unfortunately not a public apology so many people still believe that Rolex were first. But they did retract their advertisements, rather sheepishly im guessing. Hence my love of Smiths and not of 💰Rolex   🥱

I did know, I've done my research.

The hairspring is stuck together on one side, cleaning it now.  Bottom pivot is broken.  I've ordered a new one, apprehensive about replacing it as I really want this to be a success.

👍 just goes to show that Rolex were better at marketing than making watches

It will be Rich you just need to have faith in yourself. A positive attitude mate. I went to work this morning and was positive i would get a kitchen fully plastered out even with two damaged rotator cuffs in my shoulder.   Did I ?  No lol.  But i positively tried.  Just a ceiling left so a couple of hours in morning.  It will be fine Rich and if it isn't then you’ll try again and learn by your first attempt. Its just a watch mate, you're not defusing a bomb.
