I realized that in the technical guide for the eta 2824-2, the teeth of the winding pinion are oiled

While in the case of the manual 2804-2, the teeth of the winding pinion are NOT oiled

What is your personal practice when it comes to the teeth of the winding pinion. Do you oil or not?

Could it be that ETA feels that an automatic doesn't need the oil whereas a manual wind does? For what it's worth: Zenith doesn't show oil on the teeth of the winding pinion of their automatic 670/680 Elite movement either.

I have yet to actually oil a movement so my opinion is hardly worth anything. I would think that a minimal amount of oil would be fine on either manual or automatic winding pinions.

The 2824-2 is an automatic…

😶 Looks like I flipped them in my head - I knew they were each one or the other.

So, with that I feel better about oiling them when I finally get to that point.

I oil the teeth on the clutch, but I've never oiled the winding pinion. But, as they're winding with a a relatively high load at 90 deg, I guess it makes sense to oil, or grease.

I mean oiling it wouldn't hurt I'd imagine, it's one of those parts that doesn't add friction to the timekeeping of the watch so I'd assume it's a wear thing more than anything else.
