Hiya! so got a broken movement off eBay and have had fun stripping and cleaning it, it now runs but would never keeps time as the centre wheel does a little "skip" every few seconds.

Assumed I had a damaged tooth some where, but close inspection of the bridge ontop of the third wheel shows the bearing hole (no jewel) to be almost elongated to an l shape.

(sorry too tiny for me to get a picture) it almost looks like its been re-drilled and the holes joined up.

So my question is, is this normal wear??

Many thanks in advance!

There is no such thing as "normal wear" in watchmaking. Due to lack of lubrication or what else, the bearing is now deformed and unacceptable. It must be corrected by replacing the bridge, or rebushing, or placing a jewel in there, if possible.

Hi Dismaldunc,

I found the same issue in a similar Seiko and posted it here. Probably because it was a lower spec and couldn't last as long as a jewel.

Good luck with the hobby.. always remember that whatever problem you have, it is highly likely someone here has encountered it before and can share some info.
