Knurling tool?

I made a lathe indexing pin yesterday and wished I had a knurling tool.  I see them on ebay but all appear to be for large stock (larger than 4mm'ish).

So, what I did was to roll the pin between two large files.  Not the same beauty as knurling, but accomplishes a roughly similar effect.

I am open to other ideas. ???

For use in little watchmaker lathes by far the best tool is the Horia hand held knurling tool. They aren't cheap, but do come up on Ebay here and there. The lever action allows you to really control the pressure and coast around and develop a nice knurl. Eagle Rock makes a similar tool at 1/3 the price, but it's screw operated and much less user friendly.
