Polishing hands

Recommended Posts

I want to blue these hands but first of all I need to polish them. I have some lapping film up to 8000 grit.
The minute hand is curved and I’m worried about breaking it while sanding it down.
The top of the hands will be easy but how will I do the sides? Pictures of the more tricky parts of the hands are below.

You could peg them with pins into some cork and polish working down and finish with crocus paper. Make sure they are clean and free of grease and dirt by washing out in Ronsonol or equivalent, if not when bluing they will be blotchy

Good thinking!
I was looking through my books and Daniels mentioned cork. I will shape it for the minute hand to avoid breaking it.
I’m not sure how to do the sides though. I think I’ll get away with leaving them as they are.
