I picked up a set of Watch Craft winders that have a lot of rust on them. What would be a good way to remove the rust without also removing any of the hook on the winder?

Hi  A good brush down with a wire/brass brush then polish with wire wool. Try and avoid any acidic removers unless the brushing has little effect then use the remover but be careful and wash off the residue with water and dry thoroughly then coat with light oil.

Someone else on here mentioned Metal Rescue and how it cleaned up some rusted parts that he had.

I was able to get some here in Australia and it does a pretty good job of removing rust but not removing metal. Clean up with wire will afterward if you need to.

I just did this with my winders. Sat 4 hours or so in Evaporust, wire brushed, rinsed, then dipped in Holdtight 102, which we use a lot in the garage to prevent flash rust.

You don't really need the 102 as long as you lay down a film of grease before too long.

Buffing/polishing would also really help prevent future rust, but not worth the time for me. If you do buff, be careful of the hooks, of course.
