I am looking at getting a vintage zodiac watch and quite confused by the brand value or collectability.

I see some vintage watches going for $1000 or more, but newer watches going pretty cheap at a $200, even new ones.

Can anyone shed som light on that? Is it worth getting an old Zodiac?

Zodiac 70 72 made by AS was a joint production of some famous brand names, beats 36000 times an hr so is more accuracy (the higher the beat the more accurate the watch) furthure a fine regulator was added on, decent stability so you had a good watch. The only culprit I know is their offset canon pinion, in fact it needed replaced at every service, so is a hard to find and one mostly have to resort to tighening its canon pinion. not exactly how a jewel should be.

also 72 mysetry dial gained popularity in its day.

On autographic a power reserve indicator was put at center along with sweep second ,min and hour hands which was special if not exclusive.

Complications on most pieces had a interesting and unique design. Many complicstion. I have got a hand full zodiacs, but if you ask me, I spend my money on a nice manual Omega.

    • Thanks to everyone for their guidance. Just a quick update. I was able to pull the pipe off with a standard set of handset leavers; the pipe was to small for the presto lever. I then installed the whole Hour Wheel Counter assembly including the bridge. Went together in no time (bad pun).
    • Wow! Thanks for going all this way to help me! ok, so first I followed Praezis’ advice to correct that red arrow and bring that point closer. I was also wondering if the collet was centered and I tried opening it a little. Thanks Mikepilk for that Chicago lesson document, I’ll keep it at hand in the future! How does the centering seem? Then I used Nevenbekriev’s advice with drawing the bissextiles between the actual and ideal centers. Ended up changing the adjusting the final curve a couple times too…  Here is where I am now : - close when the regulator pins are in « A » position - further away in « R » position Now I know my end curve is not perfectly concentric and that explains the difference, but When I correct it it somewhat makes it worse   Thanks again for the help, love these puzzles somehow 😅
    • Thanks for all the advice! I ordered an ultrasonic machine and 1 liter of Elma red and I'll let you know how it goes.
    • Hello everyone, Hello everyone, Just reassembling this rather lovely movement… my question is this: Can anybody suggest a lubrication protocol for the Auto work on this? I also feel that reassembly of the reduction wheel components will be tricky.. any of you familiar? Also, what is the washer like component?I can’t remember noticing it on disassembly! thanks! tonyG
